And so when we have a sense of spirituality, a larger sense of meaning and purpose, connecting to something that goes beyond the self, I think that it's very very important because first of all, one of the most important ingredients of well-being and also of generosity and compassion is focusing more on others then on oneself. And so when we have a sense of spirituality we get outside of ourselves so to speak. We're focused more on others than on ourselves. It's also helpful in connecting to a larger sense of meaning and purpose which can underlie our behavior and our experience and provides a kind of compass for orienting our life.
