Bridging The Gap

From Dave Andrews

Video Interview Transcript

As a community worker, I've been involved with Aboriginal people in my neighborhood and I've been involved with refugees coming to my country who we've helped to resettle. Many of the refugees that have come into our country have come from places like Afghanistan. They happen to be Muslim. And until 9/11 we just related to one another as Australian and Afghan. But after 9/11, with the politics of terror and counterterror, we found ourselves identified over against each other as Christian and Muslim. And being a community worker part of my challenge is to bridge the chasm of division and suspicion and bring people together. So since 9/11 I've been working intentionally on trying to bring Christians and Muslims together to create a sense of community that is welcoming for all people.
